Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat! Pew! Pew!
This week’s Flash Game Friday winner is Retroshoot! This game pits the player against waves of enemies in a horizontal/vertical (it changes depending on the wave) shooter that reminds of “shmups” of yesteryear! One of the features I liked in the game was the fact that the game did all the shooting for me. I didn’t have to rapidly click my finger over and over again, nor did I have to keep my finger down in a cramped like fashion to keep the ship firing. This allowed me to focus my time and energy on dodging enemies while blowing other ones out of space. Couple that with really nice special effects (that purple lightning gets me every time) and you’ve got yourself an exciting time drain. Take that, you frakkin’ toasters!. RetroShoot

Dynamic Systems is a cool physics game inspired by the Rube Goldberg Machine. You are given some parts to complete a puzzle to get the ball in the bucket. If you run into trouble in getting the solution, you can “cheat” to see the right way to do the puzzle. You can also make or edit the levels to make your own Rube Goldberg Machine. Dynamic Systems

Pushball is a game in which you push boxes to one of two sides of a “court” suspended in space, with a pink marble ball. It takes a little patience to hit the arrow keys just right, cuz if you don’t the ball falls off into space. Pushball

Basketball Shot is one dumb game. The point is to time hit a moving ball in such a way that it is centered in the cross hairs, both up and down. Problem is, that it doesn’t work. The shot always goes to the left no matter what you do. A much better basketball shooting game is - Net Blazer, and not this awful game.Basketball Shot

Filler 2 is a fun little game, whose game play is really simple. Mouse down to create a filler ball. It will continue to grow until it hits a bouncy ball (ouch!) or another filler ball. Press space to freeze all the bouncy balls (drains your freeze). You can change the color of the balls, use a different background and it comes with 3 difficulty levels and 100 challenges. I got to 52,000 points in “easy” mode, which was good enough for 2nd at Kongregate.com (excellent game site by the by) Filler 2

Orange You Glad is a goofy fun game. You need to lick as many oranges as possible without “licking” needles, brushes, forks, cat paws, twigs, pizza cutters and a whole bunch of other nasty things. Move the mouse around and click to lick. If you see a ?, lick that and get a surprise power. And get this, you get graded on tongue efficiency, what ever that is.Orange You Glad

Fishing Craze is a fun little game that has you going fishing in a variety of locales. The controls are simple enough, click to lower the hook and bait and move the boat to catch the colorful fish to score points. There is a time limit and you have to watch out for a ugly lookin’ fish that flyies out the water and lands on your head, rendering you immovable for a period of time. Finish in the top three and you’ll go all the way to the main tourney. Fishing Craze

Driftrunners is a fun skiddy racing flash game. First things first, open up all the racing courses by winning races. Collect gold coins to upgrade your steering, speed and so forth. Once all the courses are open and you’ve got the hot car, go back and win some of the other objectives, like running, hitting things, getting the longest skid, staying on the course and much more. Well, I managed to “waste” an entire day yesterday playing Storm The House 3. Now it’s not the best game graphically speaking or design wise (jeep tires just go rolling off the screen in the Sandbox mode). But it’s pretty fun to play, if you like shooting and blowing up enemies. There are 4 levels of difficultly, ranging from Easy to Why God!? And there are 6 different games to play on the menu. Capture the Flag makes you defend your house for as long as you can (I lasted 4.5 minutes). This Is Sparta makes you kill 300 enemies. In Zombcalypse you have to last 3 minutes against the hordes. The Entertainer, you shoot enemies to “make” a tune (I didn’t quite get that one). McJeepPunch is a hoot, because you get to punch jeeps to score points. And finally in Sandbox, you can make the game as hard or as easy as you want. Storm The House 3

Think Tank is kinda like PacMan, in that you move a tank to blast the enemy who is coming to get ya. Run over powerups to get more fire power and more. Don’t get shot or run into the enemy, otherwise it game over dude.Think Tank

Sky Patrol is a retro classic arcade game. It reminds me of a old arcade game called “Time Pilot”. Many a quarter and time was “wasted” playing that game. Sky Patrol is very similiar in the game play, in addition to the pixel graphics used to render the alien ships. It’s pretty easy to play. Just manuveor your ship with your mouse and hold down the space key to shoot to get through all the levels. Sky-Patrol

Ball Story is a strange sort of game, not in bad way, but in how the ball “bounces” to destroy tiles. It could be an irratating aspect of an otherwise entertaining game. Anyways the goal is to break the same color tile as the color of the ball. Change the color of the ball and go after the other tiles, with the end game being breaking the golden star tiles after the all the colored tiles are gone. Ball Story

Fly your mini Helli as far as you can without hitting the top/bottom of the cave in miniHelli. You gotta grab gas icons to maintain enough fuel to keep on flying. A very challenging arcade game with great graphics. miniHelli

Defend The Planet reminds of the old arcade game Defender. Instead of missles coming in on city that you’re defending, alien ships fly by shooting lasers on the city. You get 3 laser cannons and a shield to fight off the aliens. Make sure the cannons and shield are charged, otherwise you are toast. Defend The Planet

Relive the days at the carnival in Carnival Star. You have to shoot all the red parts of images within 100 shots to win the prize (a teddy bear of sorts). The gun is little shakey, even when you just want to squeeze off one shot. Complete each level to get to the next one.Carnival Star

In Tubifix, you combine the snake pieces into complete worms, head to tail as long as you can make ‘em. Longer worms either get you additional time or more points. You can play three types of games. In puzzle try to get the highest score at that level. In Challenge try to make increasingly longer snakes, too short and you lose. In arcade try to make as many worms against the clock. Tubifix

In Geometriax you have to get as many combos as possible by making as many rows or columns of a number of shapes whose numbers add up to 9. Bonus points for combos of the same color. Every combo gets you closer to the next level, at which random shapes are added to the board to make a little more difficult. Once the board is full - Game Over.Geometriax

Abstract Arcade is certainly abstract in it’s design and it’s cool to play. You get a ship that you control by the mouse and the arrow keys. It’s challenging to shoot the abstract enemy ships flying in at you and maneuver at the same time to to pickup the powerups. Abstract Arcade

Frantic is an easy game in that all, and mean all, you do is move your mouse. There is no frantic clicking on a shooting button or wildly hitting the arrow buttons or anything like that. It’s one of the reasons why I like Frantic. Kind of mindless. However the further you get within the game the more you’ll have to move the mouse — frantically, HA. You have to pickup powerups and points in addition to avoiding the projectiles being fired at you. May the Arcade Force be with you! Frantic

Create custom blocks and loft them into hard-to-reach areas blocked by rafters. The point is to explode the hidden, but reachable mines. Warning: this game could be irritating or good time waster, depending on your mood. Rafter

Monster Truck Maniac 2 is fun different type of game. You get to drive a monster truck in a couple of different settings: factory or country. In each setting you get a number of levels to complete by launching the truck and hitting land mines to get the required distance and points. Monster Truck Maniac 2

Your going have to get your trigger finger warmed up to fire really fast to play IntenSub. There are 3 modes to play. Start off in the easy mode to get the hang of it. Hold down the left mouse key to power up the missle, then let ‘er fly. Course you have to avoid the depth charges while doing all that. It can’t be too easy:)IntenSub

Tri Towers Solitaire is a bit of twist on the usual solitaire game. You get just one pass through the cards. And all you do is click on the deck cards that are above or below the target card, to push them down to the pile. You get a time bonus and a wild card to get you through the levels. Heli-Combat reminds of some arcade games from in the day, years ago. You get to fly a helicopter equiped with a machine gun, missles and bombs. Your mission is to wipe out and blast every enemy in sight, be they be planes, helicopter, trucks, jeeps and these super armoured beasts. So strap in and start shootin’. Heli Combat

In Skid Pan you use the arrow keys to control your car around the pylon course in the fastest time possible. If you are fast enough you’ll be able to customize the car to suit your driving style. You can even drive a bus if you want. What a hoot. Skid Pan

In Cannons of the Night, you must save The Island of the Night from the hordes of invaders. You have a couple of cannons to get the job done. Make through the levels and be eligible for upgrades to your cannons. Cannons Of The Night

As a lowly pledge, you’ve got to PROVE you’re Beta material by becoming the Pledge Bartender. Your job: Click on your frat brothers’ mugs when they need a refill. Keep the mugs topped off as long as there’s still time on the party clock. American Pie: Beer Chugger

What’s a apocalypse surivor to do in a wasted world? Why, play Zombie Golf Riot, of course. The game is very simple. Just get your trusty chainsaw and whack off the head of a zombie. Drive the head as far as you can. (Hint: aim damn near straightup). If you get it right, the head will hit some old dynamite and go alittle further. You get bonuses when you splat the head on a stop sign of impale it on a pitchfork. I got to within 200 yards or so. So see if you can do better. Zombie Golf Riot

Jigsaw Deluxe is different kind of jigsaw game. Oh, sure you put the pieces together as in any jigsaw puzzle. However, the pieces come circling down around the play area and you better be quick about putting the pieces on the board before they reach the end of the path. You can slow down the flow and even put it in reverse if you get certain pieces on the board. Very Challenging is Jigsaw Deluxe

Free Rider 2 is a pretty neat and cool game. You get to draw a course for your bike rider to fly down. Now there are tons of options, ranging from regular bike to unicycle to different backgrounds to how you set up the course. I recommend you check out the help section before you “play”, which you mouse over the right hand middle level arrow. Not only that but mouse over the “controls” to figure out what you can draw/do in Free Rider 2. Free Rider-2

Have fun getting your ball down the race course in the fastest possible time. Make sure you avoid the blue balls, which will slow you down. If you manage to pick up points that will extend your time on the course. Ya gotta be pretty damn quick on the arrow controls to get through though. xTreme Ball Racing

In Star Fire Online, you must defend the Earth from conquering aliens from a vast area of space called “Quari”. Move your ship with the arrow keys and fire with the space key. The farther away that you kill the alien ships, the more points you’ll get. Make sure you grab the upgrades from the alien kills, they’ll boost your fire power. What I like about Star Fire is the ability to play indefinitely by turning off the classic version. Star Fire

Go ahead get a little Canadian and play Perfect Ricochet, a online curling game. You don’t have to sweep or run up and down the ice to play though. But I might suggest a bottle or two of Molson might be in order. In addition to two sizes of normal discs, you get an exploding disc for extra fun. Perfect Ricochet

In Revenge Online, you fly and shoot your way through Imperial Army to save the day. Game play is pretty simple. Just hit the A, D, W, and S keys to steer your ship above, below, up and down through the enemies. Use the J key to shoot. It’s not my favorite key combo in this type of game, (I like the arrow keys and the space bar, but that’s just me). Revenge Online

You gotta be real fast on your left trigger finger in Squid Hunter. Oh yeah, you’ll get through level one easy enough, but as you play through all the levels, your aiming and timing skills will be severely tested. And what ever you do, don’t hit the mines or the frogmen or you’ll have to start all over again. Uurrgh. Squid Hunter

Cannon Online is a tetris-like game, in which you fire a cannon ball of different colors at the same colored ball in this mass of balls descending down on you. It’s some what challenging to play and make sure the balls don’t reach the bottom of the game area. Hit at least 3 balls of the same color and you’ll score points. Cannon Online

Lace up your bowling shoes on to play Bowling Online. You control the postition and spin of the ball with mouse controls. You’re on your own with the beer frame though:) Bowling Online

Nutty Gomba is a squirrel who is gathering nuts before the hard winter sets in. Your job is to help him/her get enough nuts before the clock runs out at each level. It’s a cutesie type of game, that I usually ain’t in to, but the game play is entertaining enough to make it interesting. Nutty Gomba

That Word Game is a word game done in the spirit of Tetris. As the letters come tumbling down, you click or double click to make 3 to 15 letter words. I just ended up double clicking to make words, more or less at random. Hey I’m a science guy not an enlish guy. But if you are a word smith, I’m sure you find some good game play with That Word Game

“Dear Game Maker: Could you please turn up the lightness and contrast on your monitor to NOT make a game so damn dark.” That pretty much sums up my complaint about USS Racing. Oh, and the controls blow, as the game play in general. If you want to play a very good racing game, check out Sand Storm!! Uss Racing

Trickshot Golf is not the run of the mill online putt-putt game. It looks is as if some small child drew the holes. Could be a turn off for some. Me - I like it. And it’s pretty damn difficult to get through all the holes. Oh, and by the way, ya gotta score a hole in one on every hole, since you don’t get any 2nd, or 3rd or so on, strokes. Just hit the “reset” to get the ball back. Okay, go get frustrated:) Trickshot Golf

Armoured Assault has the ability to be a fine game, but unforturnately it fails to meet the grade. It’s a little too simple to play and a bit dark to see the tank that you are in. Here’s a tip - hold down the left mouse key and then fire, ya might have better luck than me. Armoured Assault

Tilt the platform so that your marble rolls to the hole in Tilt and Roll, a challenging online game of hand-eye coordination. If you’re interested in a challenging online game of hand-eye coordination, then Tilt and Roll is your ticket. You have to tilt the platform to get all the pickups and then head to the exit and go the next of 20 different levels. Gamezdude gives Tilt and Roll and solid A+. Tilt And Roll

I was looking forward to playing this game, but I was sadly disappointed. The game is incredilbily dark, can’t see a damn thing. The name does imply a dark screen but this was ridiculous. Not only that but ya get one crash then you have to start all over again. Sigh! Midnight Race

Providence attempts to be a cool game to play. Unfortunately it comes up short on the playability factor. It takes too much effort to even get through the first level. It claims to be a 3D game, but I didn’t see any evidence of it. Maybe you’ll like it but I really have to pass. Providence

Collect floating gems and help Gemstone Hunter grow his tail in this peaceful arcade game. Enjoy the relaxing sounds as you pick up each brightly colored gem. Collect streams of the same color and then hit the glowing energy ball with your tail. Like-colored gems will explode and create a chain reaction. Avoid the spiny urchins. Step away from traditional solitaire with Algerian Patience. In this 2-deck solitaire game, you must build 8 foundations up in suit: 4 from king to ace and 4 from ace to king. Build 8 columns up or down in suit. Watch out, the columns can only move one card at a time! Use the reserve when you need more cards. Bounceroid 2000 recalls classic midway games with fun bouncing ball action. In this online arcade game, you must keep the falling balls from hitting the floor. Move the black ball with your mouse and intercept falling balls. Bounce them left or right depending on their color. Grey balls can go to either side. Aim for the center of each side to earn more points. Watch for special bonus features as you move through 25 levels. Can you bounce your way to a high score? Bounceroid 2000

Aliens Must Die! Step into the cockpit of the last human starship and inflict a wave of destruction on the invading alien hordes, with the assistance of your trusty co-pilot Annie. Use the arrow keys or W, A, S, and D keys to move your ship. Use your mouse to aim and fire. Collect debris and power-ups from enemy ships and earn new weapons and special bonuses. I found it a little disconcerting to move the ship and shoot separately with the different controls. But Aliens Must Die is a fun little game to play. Aliens Must Die
